Statement about professional experience

Sam has been a school-based therapist for the past 10 years. The past 5 years she has worked with the People Incorporated School-Linked Mental Health Program as a therapist based at Meadow Lake Elementary School. Sam works with K-5 students struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional/behavioral issues, and stress management. Her work includes providing a safe space and individualized services for students, as well as communicating with and supporting families by providing psychoeducation and connecting them with resources. Her experience in a school setting has given her a deeper understanding of the school system and approaching students with a trauma-informed lens. In addition, it has highlighted the importance of collaboration when advocating and providing support for students. She is trained in trauma-informed practices including TF-CBT and Accelerated Resolution Therapy while also using CBT, mindfulness, and play to help teach skills and facilitate changes to help students meet their goals.

Hobbies

Sam enjoys hanging out with friends and family, exploring new restaurants around the twin cities, track and field, and coaching pole vault at the University of Minnesota in her spare time.
