Dakota Apartment Program

People Incorporated’s Dakota Apartment Program helps individuals living in a community setting to become more independent while still getting the support that they need. Staffed hours are 8:00am–10:00pm, seven days per week, with phone support available for emergencies.

People Incorporated is an innovative community provider of vital integrated behavioral and mental health services since 1969. It has a long history as the largest nonprofit in the Twin Cities providing a full range of therapeutic inpatient and outpatient services for people with the greatest need and is constantly innovating and creating new programs and services for people living with mental illness and addiction.

“It has kept my two feet on the ground by giving me a place of structure. I have improved my ability to manage the chaos in my life.”

— People Incorporated Client Testimonial

We serve adults ages 18 or older who experience a serious and persistent mental illness that qualify for waivered services.
Community living must be a reasonable expectation for individuals in these programs. Each apartment offers two private bedrooms, cable TV in the living room, and laundry rooms on each floor. Please note there are no elevators in the buildings.
We don’t determine the goals for the people we serve. We trust that they’re the experts when it comes to the direction in which they would like their life to grow. In general, we help those we serve to live safely and productively in the community, to develop self-awareness, to build natural supports, and to make positive plans for the future.
People Incorporated’s Dakota Apartment Program is a supported apartment program that offers customized living and independent living skills training. It provides an atmosphere for people to strengthen their independent living skills and learn to manage their finances, housing, medical care, accessing community resources, transportation, and other life skills. Each individual’s routine or daily schedule is determined by his or her priorities and needs as they define them.
This program is staffed by both Mental Health Practitioners and Mental Health Support Specialists who have a combination of education and experience in the mental health arena.
