Aubrey Fredrickson: What Mental Health Means to Me

May 25, 2021

This Mental Health Month, we hope you’ll join us in an exploration of what mental health means to you and your community. Be sure to check out our social media – Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram, for opportunities to share what mental health means to you, and hear from some of our staff on why this work is important to them personally, not just professionally.

Aubrey Fredrickson, the Program Supervisor at our Northside Residence, shares her thoughts on this topic.

We all have mental health but what does it mean to you?

Mental health means normalizing the experiences we all go through. Working in the mental health field has completely changed my thoughts around the importance of daily self-care. If we do not take care of ourselves, we cannot take care of our clients!

What enhances your mental well-being?

Yoga! Yoga is an incredibly therapeutic and grounding experience for me. I love the incorporation of body movement and mindfulness techniques.

What does the concept “person-centered” care mean to you and to your work helping clients?

Person-centered care means truly meeting our clients where they’re at in their mental health journey. Meeting our clients with non-judgment, empathy, understanding, and compassion is such an important part of the therapeutic relationship.
