Submission Guide for Artists
The Artability Art Show & Sale is back for 2025, and we’re inviting adult artists to showcase their creativity, connect with the community, and earn from their art! Whether you’re a returning participant or joining us for the first time, this post covers everything you need to know about eligibility, submissions, event logistics, and more.
About Artability
The Artability Art Show & Sale is a free annual event that celebrates mental health and creative expression. It is open to artists (18+) who feel that engaging with art supports their mental wellness. You do not need to be a client of People Incorporated to participate.
Artwork & Writing Submissions
Submission Events
People Incorporated will host three in-person submission events to help guide artists through the process and accept submissions:

Eligibility

Open to adult artists (18+)

Artists feel that engaging with art supports their mental wellness.

No need to be affiliated with People Incorporated
What Can I Submit?

Up to 5 art pieces and 5 writing pieces
-
All artwork must be for sale
-
Writing will be featured in an anthology sold at the event (not displayed on walls)
Artwork Guidelines

Mediums accepted:
- Painting
- Drawing
- Mixed Media
- Photography
- Sculpture
- Creative Writing
- Graphic Design

Must be no wider than 48 inches

Framing:
-
Complimentary framing for 11×14″ pieces
-
All other work must arrive framed and ready to hang

Stretched canvas should have eyelet screws and wire for hanging

Up to 5 pieces submitted via email by August 20, 2025

Compensation & Pricing
Artist Earnings
-
Artists keep 75% of the sale price
-
25% supports the Artability program
-
Payments mailed 30–60 days after the show ends (typically early December)
Pricing Guidelines
-
Price between $5 and $300, in $5 increments
-
Be conservative to increase chances of selling
-
Larger/more detailed pieces may be priced above $150
Labeling & Required Forms

Complete the 2025 Artability Submission & Waiver Form (LINKED HERE)

Each piece must be labeled with:

Your name

Title of piece (cannot be “Untitled”)

Submission number (from the form)

Preferred pickup location: Ames (Eagan), York (St. Paul), NCSP (Minneapolis)

Note: Submissions without proper labeling will not be accepted. Assistance will be available at submission events.
Artability Art Show & Sale: Opening Night & Awards

Scholarships
The Melissa Lewis Scholarship is awarded to emerging female artists of color and is selected by an impartial BIPOC judge based on a short essay submission. For more information on applying, click here.
Best in Show
The Best in Show winner will also be featured as the ambassador piece for the following year’s Artability Art Show & Sale.
The 2025 ambassador piece is The Storyteller by Gayle Olson.

Unsold Artwork Pickup
Unsold work must be picked up at one of the dates below. Please note artwork MUST be picked up from the same location where it was originally submitted. Artwork not picked up by January 1, 2026, will become property of People Incorporated.
